OCR
AR Tagging uses optical character recognition (OCR) looking for text, barcodes or QR codes. AR Tagging will automatically find the desired characters from the label using defined filters – either standard rules or regular expressions – create a Point of interest and save its position to your scan. Determine the POI’s position based on the data from the scan. Add Points of interest with your smartphone while walking around the location.
Using an OCR Filter
In the OCR tab you can configure rules for OCR recognitions. To filter specific labels you can define a filter rule. We support standard filters using “asterisk” as a placeholder.

You can also define filter rules using regular expressions. Regular expressions is a rule set to define search patterns which is widely used by developers. You can define advanced rules like the amount of characters.

Setting an OCR Filter
To set an OCR filter in the Viewar portal, open the map you want to use AR Tagging in. Open the menu, go to settings and select the tab “OCR”. There you can choose a rule type for your tagging. In this example we select standard as the filter type and enter our filter. Once you have set your filter and restarted the Viewar app, you can go ahead and tag all the labels you want to add to your scan.
How to tag
There are a few things to be aware of, for AR Tagging. It’s important to move the smartphone from side to side to make sure you film the label from multiple angles. Filming the text from a close distance or holding the phone steady will not work properly. The more angles with recognitions you provide the more accurate the positioning will be. After the label is recognized, you can edit the name or just save the P.O.I.. Once you have saved a new P.O.I.., it will be automatically stored in your 3D map with the name and exact location. We recommend apple devices with LiDAR or depth camera for best results with AR Tagging.
